[ News Update - January 2007 ]
30th December 2006 - The Youngstarz boys gathered together for a swimming / street soccer / billiard / bowling cum BBQ party. They thoroughly enjoyed the occasion with yummy satays which was tastefully prepared by one of the parents. While the kids had their fun, the parents were sipping the night away with "ribenas". The "ribenas" eventually got us to EPL football where it was our talk of the night. The Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea "die hards" were exchanging "languages". It was a fun night.
31st December 2006 - We continued with the party where we met in the evenings after all the dehydrations from the ribenas and gathered together. We took the group of boys and headed to the Esplanade for the New Year's Eve countdown. Despite the crowd, we enjoyed the night together overcoming the rain and stood to witness the fireworks display with the countdown. The boys were cheerfully singing, dancing and screaming the night away. We adjourned to the Pasir Panjang roti prata restaurant and chatted till the wee hours in the morning.
05th January 2007 - We played our first away friendly for the New Year against the Public Utilities Board Football Team and lost by 2 goals to 1. It wasn't a good performance from the team. It was a disappointing lost. However, in view of our good gamesmanship which we have maintained, the Public Utilities Board team has asked for a re-match. It will be schedule after the Chinese New Year period.
06th January 2007 - We were back to our training ground. I had reviewed our team performance to Mr Aw. We needed to work on our team's co-ordination and fitness. Without any second thoughts, Mr Aw was most willing to gel us up. He put us on the circuit training. I thoroughly enjoyed the session as I have been focusing to get back to conditions again after the 3 months laid-off suffering from the hairline fractured. I needed it to enjoy my football. On a sentiment note, may I also take the opportunity to thank all those who had sang a birthday song to Leonard, who had turned 14 years old on that day. I certainly hope Leonard will continue to bring back the football interest in him, continue to study well and learn from some of the senior Rain United friends. Leonard was somewhat "touched" and has been pestering me for Kenny, Ah Long and Jia He's birthdate ever since.
13th January 2007 - We continued with our fitness and endurance training. We had some new friends who had joined us on our earlier sessions but has faded eversince. I had wanted to work on our players' training and discipline consistencies to identify team members. We have a good coach in Mr Aw, we have some dedicated players, I strongly believe that the Rain United players have what it takes to play good, clean football. I cancelled a friendly match with the Victoria Junior College football team to focus more on our teamwork.
14th January 2007 - It was the first day of the Kidz Warriors Programme. Throughout the last few months, I have identified supportive parents who had shared the same passion for football in Rain United and the Youngstarz. They were the same group of people who have gone far in attending to our football sessions and had taken time off from work to travel up to Kuala Lumpur to witness their kids to play with the Malaysian teams. The playing and non-playing parents together with me concurred with the same objectives. Bonding football with the kids brings us closer together. I took the opportunity to invite some to assist with the Kidz Warriors 9 months programme where we will continue to learn and refresh ourselves with the fundamentals of football through sheer focus on discipline, dedications and contributions. Young Justin also had the opportunity to enrol himself with the Warriors where he will pick-up his football basics which he has been enjoying himself.
20th January 2007 - For the past few months, my mind had been focusing on the match against the LaSallians Old Boys' Association returned match where we had lost by 5 goals to 1 the last time we met. I had went by to watch their games, I had read and understand their play against us and I had wanted a "plan" game for this match. I spoke to Mr Aw and he executed an action plan for us. I had postponed this game on 3 occasions as I wanted to be part of the team to play in this game. We trained lightly and focused more on our strategic play.
21st January 2007 - We met outside Lot 1 at 2pm and headed to the SJI Field. I have invited the junior boys to come along for a supposedly friendly match with the OBA junior boys but it did not turned out well. My apology to all those who are concerned. The game against the OBA had turned out to be one of the best first half display we have ever had. The players stucked to the game plan, they played for one another, we were focused and we had the believe in ourselves. Amazingly, we led 4-0 at half time. Credit goes to the front-play, the hardworking players and Mr Aw guidance. The OBA team were taken aback. However, we are still not good enough in many areas and we must train harder for the many games to come. It has been one of my most satisfying win and until today, I am still on a high. Guys, thank you for believing in yourselves. Let us work together and play harder as a team. Thank you Mr Aw !!!!! I am still enjoying the win. Never mind that Man U had lost. Guys you can be proud of yourselves as being one of the fewer teams who has beaten the OBA. Cheers !
